Flamingo brings the raytrace and radiosity rendering inside Rhino. This plug-in includes:
Contents
Rendering[edit]
Photometrically accurate images with reflections, refraction, diffusion, translucency, transparency, color bleeding, hard and soft shadows, depth of field, depth attenuation, and indirect lighting.
Flamingo 2.0 First you need to choose the rendering:
From the toolbar -> Render -> Current renderer ->
- Flamingo Raytrace 2.0 - used for normal rendering, and medium quality when using texture.
- Flamingo Photometric 2.0 - used for photo realistic rendering, highest quality when using texture.
Type Options, and follow to Document Properties -> Flamingo.
- Choose the Rendering resolution according to your needs.
In the Document Properties -> Flamingo -> Advanced menu,
- Mark the Soft shadows, for better rendering shadows - slower rendering time
Everything else leave as it is.
At the end of the rendering you can modify the Exposure for the picture. In the rendered window, go to Image toolbar -> Exposure control Select the High dynamic range option and feel free to move the slides until you have your desired image.
Materials[edit]
Drag and drop from an extensive material library with user controllable properties including defuse color, reflections, refraction, translucency, transparency, depth attenuation, bitmap textures with tiling and masking, procedural 2-D and 3-D materials, ClearFinish™, and angular blend.
There are the following folders in HOME\Library\Models\
*_FLAMINGO_LIBRARY - here there are the textures for materials and images for rendering (HDRI). Here are also rhino models which don't have anything to do with yachts (CNC machine)
To create a new material, download the texture you need. Go to the Toolbar -> Flaming -> Materials. Add new material, define its name. Right click and choose 'Edit'. Go to the Maps tab and add your texture.
According to what you need, you can set the following:
- Main tab - color for the finish, glossiness and self luminance
- Transparency tab - transparency for the object and finish
- Maps tab - adding texture(s) ( Image mapping tab - size and orientation of texture )
- Highlight tab - make a highlight on the surface
After you've chosen the materials: select the surfaces/solids/meshes. In the Properties manager select Material Here you will choose between the 2 options:
- Layer - the material in rendering will be the one from the Layer
- Plug-in - the material in rendering will be the one you've chosen
If you have multiple surfaces/solids/meshes in a Layer, and all have the same texture/color, you can add the texture only to the Layer; select all the elements and choose in the Properties manager, for material, the Layer option.
Another nice option in the Properties manager is the Decal. This is useful when you have something like a TV screen, and you want to put an image on it. In the Properties manager -> Decals, choose Add and choose the image file
- Decal Mapping Style - choose according to your needs
- Arrange or scale the new image as needed
*_INTERIOR_ACCESSORIES Here there are models of interior accessories such as flowers or drinking glasses, which have been build by inspiration. All new models will be placed here. Also, try to apply to them the materials.
*_INTERIORS_HARDWARE Here there are models of specific accessories such as hinges or portholes. Have been build following sketches or downloaded from WWW, such as Hettich. Some of them have also the PDF from the catalogue.
Lighting[edit]
Lighting options include directional, point, spot, linear, rectangular, and goniometric lights, sun, ground, sky, and global illumination using a light dome or an HDR image.
In Home\Library\Models\_INTERIORS_HARDWARE\Lights there are some already built models of lighting appliances.
Other features[edit]
Procedural clouds, fractal-generated 3-D plants, progressive-refinement for quick preview, RPC support, Piranesi EPix support, and extensive plant and background libraries.
Performance[edit]
See Flamingo Performance Tuning.
