- Fernsum calculates with the following parameters:
- minimum hull speed at full rated power (under full load)
- maximum sea water temperature
- heat rejection
- fresh water flow rate
- fresh water temeprature into cooler
- fresh water temperature out or drop across cooler

By Daniel Boekel
Pipe cooling:
- 1" = 26mm ID = 3,55 hp/m
- 1 1/4" = 35mm ID = 4,75 hp/m
- 1 1/2" = 40mm ID = 5,45 hp/m
- 2" = 52mm ID = 7,00 hp/m
- 2 1/2" = 65mm ID = 8,85 hp/m
- 3" = 80mm ID = 10,50 hp/m
Bottom cooling (box against shell):
(dimensiosn: total length of box x height of box (section to be square or triangular))
- 200x6 = 10 hp/m
- 180x6 = 9 hp/m
- 160x6 = 8 hp/m
- 140x5 = 7 hp/m
- 120x5 = 6 hp/m
- 100x5 = 5 hp/m
Further:
- keep cross section area at least the same as cross section of engine connections
- st.st. is not a suitable construction material because of it's reduced heat transfer properties
