Questions

  • Roof curvature
  • Shared toilets for crew
  • hydro-electric drive?

General

  • Main dimensions:
    • LOA 38.50m
    • Dmax 1.40m
    • Air draft 3.35m (or 3.60m?)
    • BOA 4.95m
  • Range - maximum 10 days
  • Area
    • French channels
    • River Rhine
    • German channels
  • Season:
    • At French Channels is May-October
    • Off season boats will sail to homeport Leeuwarden where they will be overhauled and used for daytrips/parties for groups of max 30 persons
  • Booking agency Cumberly & Kent
  • Misc:
    • State of the art technique
    • 5 star ship
    • Owner has shipping company with advanced ships where everything is operated electrical.
    • Walls between cabins and between cabins and public spaces will have optimum insulation to reduce sound transfer to the max.
    • ER as small as possible

Propulsion

  • Diesel electric propulsion – SRF recently did a boat of LOA 25m / 25 kW which reached 7 km/h min. Potential electric engine supplier is Boumuller (Hybrid Ship Propulsion)
  • Roof covered with solar panels
  • Possibility of hydro propulsion as secondary
    • neccesary power for minimum speed of 7km/h (?? why 7??)
  • Vessel shall sail in small channels electrical at low power without generator. Battery capacity to be calculated and applied for 1 day of sail.
  • For additional power and where possible to replace combustion engines a large area of solar panels will be installed.
  • Furthermore a shore connection for power supply and battery charge. An electric bow thruster in a tunnel in the foreship.
  • Vessel will have 2 remote controlled ‘spudpalen’, 1 PS in foreship and 1 SB in aftship.
  • Propulsion by means of electric propelled ‘rudder-propellor’. Electric power supply of rudder-propellor will have an automatic switch for batteries or generator.
  • Power of rudder-propellor will be between 1-150 kW with frequence control. At full power the generator will provide the power.
  • Two generators:
    • 180 KW full power sailing and board system
    • 50 KW low speed and board system
    • Generators to be in sound insulated boxes (whisper generators).
    • Generators to meet current, known and expected requirements regarding emission for European inland waterways.

Systems

Anchoring

  • 2 pillars instead of anchors
  • SRF – cofferdam with all tanks between ER and cabins, 2 frame distances of 450mm

Gray water

  • Grey water can be drained overboard

Black water

  • Black water must be stored

HVAC

  • Heating, cooling and insulation will be calculated and executed in such a way that with outside temperatures of -20°C the interior can be kept at +23°C and with an outside temperature of +38°C the inside temperature can be kept at 18°C.
  • The goal is to design the vessel in such a way that with minimum energy consume the guests and crew can be transported in great comfort.

Accomodation

General

  • Guest and crew accommodation to meet all applicable, known and expected regulations for commercial transport on European inland waterways.
  • Whirlpool on foreship

Crew

  • Crew number - 5
    • Skipper / Captain with partner
    • Cook 1x
    • Hostess 2x
    • 1 double cabin for skipper w partner
    • 4 single cabins for cook and hostess
    • spare cabin available when skipper is without partner

Guests

  • Passenger number - 10
  • Cabins:
    • Windows and portholes with optimum sun and light screens
    • Great attention to be paid to maximum day light entry and view
    • Local adjustable heating of sufficient capacity
    • Good adjustable fresh air supply
    • light and belvedere
    • 5 identical double cabin

Wheelhouse

  • Wheelhouse to have a seating area for guests
  • Wheelhouse to have visibility to stern

Exterior

  • Fore and aftdeck suitable for guests so they can spread over the boat and find some privacy.

Layout

  • Idea is to have in foreship the crew accommodation, then 5 guest cabins, then engine room. Main deck: wheelhouse, galley, salon, aftdeck.
  • Guests are usually elder so keep rollators in mind but boat does not need to be wheelchair accessible
  • Keep boarding and stairs comfortable
  • Classic look with original details

Toilets

  • Bathroom to be spacious and a shower with all modern comfort.
  • Separate toilet with bowl of standard hotel size (no ship type bowl)

Rules

  • ‘kanalen kopschroef’ suitable for back up propulsion, requires full ER, minimum speed. Question is if back up is about propulsion or propulsion line, in latter case an electric engine with hollow shaft might work out.

RORS

Kapitel 15

  • 15.01 General provisions
    • 1 - The following provisions shall not apply
      • 3.02 No 1 letter b
      • 1.4 to 3.4
      • 8.08 No 2 sentence 2 and No 7
      • 14.9 No 3 sentence 2 with nominal voltages above 50V.
    • 2 - Provisions regarding liquefied gas (not interesting)
    • 3 - Vessels without means of self propulsion are not allowed to carry passengers
    • 4 - On passenger vessels, areas for use by persons with reduced mobility shall be provided, which satisfy the requirements referred to in this chapter. If the provisions referred to in this chapter, which take into account the specific safety needs of persons with reduced mobility, are difficult in practice or involve unreasonably high costs, the inspection body may allow derogations from these provisions subject to recommendations by the Central Commission for Navigation on the Rhine. These derogations must be entered in the Community certificate.
  • 15.02 Hull
    • 1 - The thickness of the outside shell shall be determined according 2.09
      • a - gives the min thickness formula
      • b - the minimum thickness according point a can be reduced if it can be demonstrated by calculation a sufficient longitudinal, lateral and local strength
      • c - absolute min thickness is 3mm no matter the results from point a and b
    • 2 - The position and number of bulkheads will be determined in accordance with § 15.03 No 7 to 13 .each part of the structure that affects the integrity of the subdivisions should be watertight and should be designed to maintain the integrity of the subdivision
    • 3 - The distance between the collision bulkhead and the forward perpendicular shall not be less than 0.04 x LWL and not exceed LWL x 0.04 + 2 m
    • 4 - A transverse bulkhead may be fitted with a bulkhead recess, if all parts of this offset lie within the safe area.
